Competition Rules

EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS
1. The Club shall enter such external competitions as it regards as appropriate to publicise the expertise of its members.
2. In order that the Club can compete effectively, members are asked to make available their best work.
3. Selection shall be by an appointed Selection Committee of Club members nominated by the Club Committee. The criteria for selection shall be to win.
4. Any member who is not nominated for the selection committee may attend selection sessions as a silent observer.
5. The Selection Committee shall publish dates and requirements for all competitions as far in advance as possible. Monthly reminders shall be given at weekly meetings.
INTERNAL COMPETITIONS
Internal competitions shall consist of the following categories:
1. Colour Slides - 35mm Format.
2. Colour Slides - Medium Format.
3. Endeavour Cup – Six Slides as a Group.
4. Slide of the Year.
5. Ladies v Gents Slides – (subject to programme).
6. A Group & B Group Slides - (subject to programme).
7. Set Subject – Slides and Prints - (subject to programme).
8. Monochrome Prints.
9. Monochrome Print of the Year.
10. Colour Prints.
11. Colour Print of the Year.
12. Projected Digital Images.
13. Projected Digital Image of the Year.
14. Exhibition competitions – Panel, Monochrome Print, Colour Print and Projected Digital Images.
1. COLOUR SLIDES - 35mm FORMAT COMPETITIONS
1. There will be two or three groups (to be decided by the Club Committee taking into account the number of Club members).
2. Each member will be allowed to enter up to THREE slides in each internal competition.
3. The number of internal slide competitions for each season will be FOUR, but may be changed at the discretion of the Committee, which will inform the membership in advance.
4. The groups will be named as follows: ADVANCED, INTERMEDIATE and STANDARD (depending on the number of groups). (An Intermediate group will be formed only if numbers suffice).
5. Slides must be glass mounted for Advanced and Intermediate groups.
6. Slides must be spotted in the lower left hand corner when viewed right way up and must also bear a title, date and author’s name.
7. No slide or near duplicate may be entered more than TWICE or after receiving a mark of nine or more points in any season.
8. Marks to be awarded are from 1 to 10 for each entry. Half marks will be allowed. There will be no limit to the number of 10s awarded.
9. All new members shall, unless the Club Committee otherwise decides (see below), be placed in the Standard group. Any member who wishes to be considered for a higher group in the internal competitions may, at the beginning of the season or on joining, submit to the Club Committee a panel of six recent slides or evidence of photographic distinctions achieved. The Committee will then decide whether the member should be moved to a higher group.
10. Any member who has not entered these competitions for three years or more and who wishes to re-enter may be required to submit a panel of six recent slides to the Club Committee for consideration at the beginning of the season. The Committee will then decide the appropriate group placing.

2. COLOUR SLIDES - MEDIUM FORMAT COMPETITIONS
1. This competition will consist of ONE group only.
2. Each member will be allowed to enter up to THREE slides in each competition.
3. All other rules are as for the 35mm competitions.
4. To be judged by an independent judge (not a club member).
3. ENDEAVOUR CUP—SLIDES
1. Best collection of six slides per entrant, shown as a group, illustrating a theme of the entrant’s own choice.
2. There will be no segregation of groups for this competition.
3. Images must not have been entered in this competition previously.
4. To be judged by an independent judge (not a club member).
4. SLIDE OF THE YEAR
1. This competition will be held annually, following the completion of all internal competitions and will be held in conjunction with Monochrome Prints, Colour Prints & Projected Digital Images.
2. It will be open to all slides that have scored 9 or more points during the season's internal competitions.
3. There will be a limit of TWO slides per member.
4. There will be no segregation of groups in this competition.
5. Entries for all slide competitions must be forwarded to the Slide Secretary or nominated person in advance of competition night. (In exceptional circumstances members may notify slide titles by phone.) (See page 8 in the programme for details).
6. To be judged by an independent judge (not a club member).
5. LADIES v GENTS - SLIDE COMPETITION
1. A competition to be held at the Programme Secretary's discretion.
2. The competition may be held as a normal slide competition or as a Match-a-Slide competition.
3. A Captain will be appointed for each side and will be responsible for submitting that side’s entry.
4. The two Captains shall agree a suitable number of entries per side.
5. The Captains shall ensure that any member submitting work to this event shall be represented by at least one entry provided the entry is received by the Captain’s deadline.
6. No author’s work should be more than 20% of a side’s entry.
7. To be judged by an independent judge (not a club member).
6. ‘A’ GROUP v ‘B’ GROUP - SLIDES
1. This competition to be held at the Programme Secretary's discretion.
2. The rules will be as for the Ladies v Gents competition.
3. NOTE: Match-a-Slide rules are issued separately.
7. SET SUBJECT – SLIDES AND PRINTS
1. Two "set subject" competitions may be held each season.
2. One will be for slides and one will be for colour or mono prints. Up to three entries per author will be allowed per competition.
3. There will be no segregation of groups.
4. The subjects will be selected by the Programme Committee.
5. To be judged by an independent judge who will select one winner from each competition.

12. PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGE COMPETITIONS

2. The number of internal Projected Digital Image Competitions for each season will be FOUR, but may be changed at the discretion of the Club Committee, which will inform the membership in advance.
3. Each member will be allowed submit up to THREE Digital Images per competition.
4. The competition will be named THE PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGE COMPETITION.
5. No Digital Image or near duplicate may be entered more than TWICE or after receiving a mark of 9 or more points in any season.
6. Marks are to be awarded from 1 to 10 for each entry. Half marks will be allowed. There will be no limit on the number of 10s awarded.
7. Trade processed entries are allowed with general colour adjustment applied. However, no other image manipulation by the trade processor or another third party is permitted.
8. All images must be submitted no later than TWO WEEKS before the date of the competition.
9. All images submitted are to be in JPEG Format, set to Quality 12.
10. All images must be sized to a maximum horizontal or vertical dimension of 768 pixels.
11. Images submitted may be either in monochrome or in colour.
12. Images may be, submitted only on Compact Disk or USB Memory stick. The media must not contain any images other than those being submitted for the competition. All media submitted must be clearly labelled to identify the entrant’s name. All media will be available for collection on the night of the competition.
13. Images may be submitted with or without manipulation. Only originals that were taken by the entrant using the photographic process are permitted. In the case of combined images, every individual image must have been taken by the entrant.
14. Wholly computer-generated images are not permitted.
15. Images may be captured either by digital camera or by scanning from the entrant’s original slide or print.
16. Laboratory scanning is permitted providing the original image was on negative, slide or print that was the work of the entrant.
17. To be judged by an independent judge (not a club member).
18. The file structure and naming convention of all images submitted must conform to DiCentra software and the Club’s requirements.
19. All images submitted will be retained on the Club’s laptop, in case they are required for submission into an external competition.
20. No image may be altered in any way by the Club without the permission of the author.
13. PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGE OF THE YEAR
1. This competition will be held annually, following the completion of all internal competitions and will be held in conjunction with Slides, Monochrome Prints & Colour Prints.
2. It will be open to Digitally Projected Images that have scored 9 or points more during the seasons internal competitions.
3. There will be a limit of TWO images per member.
4. There will be NO segregation of groups in this competition.
5. To be judged by an independent judge (not a club member).
14. EXHIBITION COMPETITIONS
1. All entrants must complete an entry form and follow the guidelines that are published by the Exhibition Organiser two/three months prior to the exhibition. The guidelines may vary from year to year.
2. There will be an award for the following categories exhibited:
Best Panel (3 Prints)
Best Monochrome Print
Best Colour Print
Best Projected Digital Image
3. Certificates will be awarded for 2nd & 3rd in each category.
4. All prints are to be mounted on 40cm x 50cm mounts and framed in either black or silver frames to the club’s specification.
5. All images that have been selected by the judge as winners or receive an Honourable Mention in each of the four categories may be shown as Projected Digital Images.
6. All entrants submitting images into the exhibition, should submit digital files of their images, for showing on the Private Viewing Night, should they be selected by the judge.
7. Exhibition competitions are to be judged by an independent judge (not a club member).
Note: The Slide competition will be discontinued, and there will be no provision for slide entries at the 2009 exhibition.

Print Competition entries will not be accepted after 7.50pm on the evening of the competition, titles should be handed to Kevin Austin the
previous week or telephoned on or before the Tuesday prior to the competition.
Slide Competition entries MUST be submitted prior to the competition, titles may be telephoned to Kevin Austin on Monday or Tuesday evening prior to the competition. Group A slides must be in glass mounts. Slide Titles will not be accepted on the evening of the competition, your name, date & title must appear on the slide.
PDI Entries must be submitted two weeks prior to the competition.

3. Certificates will be awarded for 2nd & 3rd in each category.
4. All prints are to be mounted on 40cm x 50cm mounts and framed in either black or silver frames to the club’s specification.
5. All images that have been selected by the judge as winners or receive an Honourable Mention in each of the four categories may be shown as Projected Digital Images.
6. All entrants submitting images into the exhibition, should submit digital files of their images, for showing on the Private Viewing Night, should they be selected by the judge.
7. Exhibition competitions are to be judged by an independent judge (not a club member).
Note: The Slide competition will be discontinued, and there will be no provision for slide entries at the 2009 exhibition.

Print Competition entries will not be accepted after 7.50pm on the evening of the competition, titles should be handed to Kevin Austin the
previous week or telephoned on or before the Tuesday prior to the competition.
Slide Competition entries MUST be submitted prior to the competition, titles may be telephoned to Kevin Austin on Monday or Tuesday evening prior to the competition. Group A slides must be in glass mounts. Slide Titles will not be accepted on the evening of the competition, your name, date & title must appear on the slide.
PDI Entries must be submitted two weeks prior to the competition.
