Resizing – Why Bother?

Everyone submits his or her images to the same size.
Preparation by each person at home saves hours by one at the last minute.

All digital images must be sized to Width 1400 pixels x Height 1050 pixels.


Create a Folder
File/New Folder
Label it with your first and last names – First Name Last Name

Open an Image
Use your favourite software package e.g. – Photoshop
Duplicate image - Image/Duplicate
Close original

Flatten all Layers
Layer / Flatten image

Resize Image
Two ways to do this

Quick Resize Image
File / Automate / Fit image / Constrain within 1400 pixels by 1050 / OK

Alternative Image Resize
Photoshop Elements suitable
Image/Resize / Image Size
Tick ‘Constrain proportions’
Tick ‘Bicubic’
Type in 1400 pixels in the box with the largest number of pixels
OK

Set Colour Profile
Always CONVERT to profile (Assign profile leads to unexpected results).
Edit/Convert to Profile/Destination space (drop down menu, choose sRGB).


Save As
File/Save As

Name File
3 digits 00*, a space, words for title (ie 001 The Red Robin)
Where - named file on desktop.
File Format - ‘jpeg’
Tick ‘As a Copy’
Tick ‘Embed Colour Profile sRGB
Save
Image Options / Quality / 12 (maximum)
Format Options / Tick ‘Baseline Standard’

Finished Folder
Should look like this:-
001 Sunlight at Dawn
002 Romantic Moonlight
003 Storm Damage
NB Your name must be left of the title (ie anonymous)

Entry Files – Submission
Two weeks before competition date
Burnt onto CD (compact disc) or DVD (Digital Versatile Disc)
OR
Copied to USB Memory Stick

Label Storage Device
Use waterproof felt tip marker eg Sharpie. Neve use a label a sticky labelon a disc. If it comes off it may damage your drive
Put name and date on CD/DVD or USB Stick
1. Named personal folder
2. Max 3 images 0001Title, 002 Title, 003 Title
3. Flattened image
4. Resize 1400 pixels x 1050 pixels
5. Convert to sRGB
6. 72 dpi
7. Jpeg
8. Max quality 12
9. Labelled storage medium
